Geek for a Day: Using Technology in Your Classroom

      This training has been approved for 5 hours of professional development training.

      In this workshop, participants will learn to use digital video and still cameras, audio recorders, photo and sound editing software, and presentation software to develop media products that support intstructional development, publicity campaigns, or data reporting. Participants will work on a project to design a PowerPoint™ presentation to give to groups of people to recruit volunteers for their literacy organization. As participants work on this project, they will learn to:
      • Create a PowerPoint™ template with their organization’s logo.
      • Use Excel™ to create a graph with a graphic to represent data from their program.
      • Create and edit a digital audio clip.
      • Edit a photo.
      • Combine a graph, digital photo, and digital audio to tell the story of a student in their program.
      • Edit a video clip.
      • Improve the sound quality of a video clip.
      • Splice video clips together.
      • Insert video into a presentation to show what a literacy class looks like and to hear the experiences of a volunteer.

      As participants work on the project and learn to create multimedia projects, they will discuss ways to use digital video and still cameras, audio recorders, photo and sound editing software, and presentation software for instruction, training, pubilicty, and data reporting. All software is either part of Microsoft Office™ or is free. Participants will leave with handouts outlining the steps to create the multimedia project, and a CD with the multimedia files used in the project plus the project they created in the workshop.

          This is a free workshop. Materials and lunch will be provided. Any cancellations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the workshop or a fee of $100 to cover materials will be assessed.
