Beginning Readers Workshops

The 2006 Beginning Readers Workshops are scheduled for April 7 in St. Louis and May 5 in Kansas City with Dr. Jeri Levesque. Designed for adult educators and tutors working in family literacy, AEL, corrections, or other literacy programs, these workshops will orient adult educators to current research on best practices associated with teaching adults to read.

The workshops will provide strategies for teachers to interpret student assessment results, make decisions, and determine strategies for instruction. The workshops include information on research regarding adult learning, how research guides instruction, and accountability.

These workshops are eligible for Missouri AEL Professional Development credit. Contact your AEL Director for more information.

The workshops can be taken together as a series or separately as stand-alone sessions. Register now online at www.lift-missouri.org/workshops/register.html or call (800)729-4443 x207 to register by phone.

NCFL Adult Education in Family Literacy - ABE Reading Instruction imPACT Training for Family Literacy Professionals

This training focuses on the skills and strategies important to adult educators working in family literacy programs. Building on the groundwork laid in the Foundations in Family Literacy training, specific focus is given to intentional and purposeful teaching strategies that impact ABE reading achievement; how Parent Time and PACT Time reinforce the important role of parents in the development of their children's language and literacy skills and how these components can be used to impact the reading achievement of adults; and how an integrated family literacy program impacts the language and literacy skills of the entire family.

Originally scheduled for November 2005, this training will take place June 1-2 in Columbia, MO. Register now online at www.lift-missouri.org/workshops/register.html or call (800)729-4443 x207 to register by phone.
